The Weather in Chicago in November

As a retired meteorologist turned tour guide, I didn't expect that I would use my experience as a forecaster in my new career in tourism.

But here I am, finding myself answering more weather questions as a blogger than I ever did as a weatherman.

So, here are answers to some frequently asked questions about the weather in Chicago in November, with a seasonal forecast for 2024.

HOW COLD IS CHICAGO IN NOVEMBER?

Chicago continues to cool during this month, and by the end of November, the temperature has often dropped 15 °F (9 °C) from where it started.

The temperatures reach between 44 °F and 53 °F (7-11 °C), with an average high of 48 °F (9 °C).

On the other end, the average low this month is 32 °F (0°C), with a couple of days remaining below freezing.

An average of 5 days will reach above 60 °F (16 °C).

During this month, the city often sees 3.2 inches (80 mm) of precipitation, whether that is rain or snow!

November is also the cloudiest month of the year.

This month is also windier than most, with the average wind speed being 11.1 mph (17.9 kph).

With dropping temperatures this month, you will want to pack appropriately.

There are many outdoor and indoor activities to take advantage of, so you will want to be prepared for both.

What to Wear in November in Chicago

Near the beginning of the month, a lighter jacket might be sufficient, but by the end, you will want a medium to heavy jacket to keep you comfortable.

Beyond bringing warm jackets, this month is when you will want to come prepared with winter hats and gloves, especially near the end of November.

Chicago is a very walkable city, so included in your suitcase should be comfortable walking shoes. Ankle boots are perfect for this month.
