Getting to Lexington and Concord from Boston

The first shots of the Revolutionary War (War of Independence, depending on which side you were one) were first as the sun rose over Lexington, Massachusetts. While visiting Boston, you’ll be inundated with Revolutionary War history and sites, but why not start from the beginning.

Leaving Boston, you can follow the British foot steps, but don’t worry you don’t have to take a horse! Getting to Lexington and Concord from Boston is simple.

Getting to Lexington and Concord from Boston By Public Transportation:

Take the Subway (Redline) to Alewife MBTA Station, bus routes #76 and #62 run to and from Alewife Station in Cambridge. Travel time one way is about 25 minutes. On both routes, buses run frequently during peak hours, traveling along Massachusetts Avenue and making stops in Lexington Center.

Driving from Boston to Lexington:

Lexington lies 11 miles northwest of Boston. Under light traffic conditions, assume 30 minutes travel time from the city.  Take rt. 93N to exit 37B on to Interstate 95 South .  Follow to exit 31A to Bedford St. towards Lexington.  Turn Right on Massachusetts Ave for about 400′, the Lexington Green is on your right.

Driving from Lexington to Concord:

Turn right onto 2A (Massachusetts Ave) follow to East Monument Square follow for about 2 miles, turn left onto West Monument Square, follow for 600′ and you will Monument Square Concord.

Concord MBTA (Public Transportation):

A daily commuter bus between Concord and Boston is run by A Yankee Line, Inc. Schedules and fares can be obtained by phoning 617 268-8890.

There are two commuter rail stops in Concord on the line running from Boston to Fitchberg. One stops in Concord, the other in West Concord. Be aware that while the one in Concord is closest to the usual tourist attractions it is still about a mile’s walk to the downtown/Milldam area and about the same distance to Walden Pond.

Driving to Concord from Boston:

Take the MA Turnpike (90) West Take the Massachusetts Turnpike west to exit 15 to interstate 128 toward Waltham follow to Interstate 95 North, take exit 29 B to rt. 2 West, continue onto the Cambridge Turnpike to Lexington Rd. follow to Monument Square turn left to West Monument Square, turn right onto Lowell Rd., turn right onto Liberty St.  Minute Man National Park, 74 Liberty St.

Driving From Concord to Lexington:

Head southeast on Liberty St to Lowell Rd. Turn left onto Lowell Rd.  Lowell Rd. turns into Lexington Rd.  follow Lexington Rd. for about 2miles to Massachusetts Ave. Follow to Lexington Green.  About 2 miles.  The Lexington Green will be on your right.
