JU Street Walking Touroin us as we explore the historic treasures of DC’s U Street corridor. Once known as “Black Broadway,” this neighborhood remains a trove of the capital’s African American history. From the Civil War through the Jazz Age to the race riots of the ‘60s and beyond.

Historic U Street Walking Tour

You’ll learn the African American Civil War Memorial and the stories of those men who served. Explore the childhood neighborhood of Duke Ellington, Marvin Gaye, Pearl Bailey and Lillian Evanti.

Our U Street Walking Tour ends not far from Ben’s Chili Bowl, where we recommend you visit for a half smoke after hearing about this historic site.

Reservations: This tour is run as a private option only for up to 12 people.  School groups may be able to accommodate up to 20.

Where: Meet your guide at Howard Theatre 620 T Street NW  (closest Metro is the Shaw/Howard station on the Green/Yellow line.)

The tour ends at 14th and U Street NW (closest Metro: U Street on the Green/Yellow line)

Duration: Tour lasts approx. 2 hours. Total walking is just under one mile (1,6km).
